You Know You're a New Yorker When...

...you yell at the cars trying to run you over as you cross the crosswalk.

Dirty Old Snowman

Meat 'n' Three

Last night at People, the copy chief asked me what a meat 'n' three was. I went into a really long explanation, and then I asked him where he heard it. He said, "Southern Living." Well, duh. But all that talking about it made me hungry for fried green tomatoes, fried okra, and chicken fried chicken. Which is just like chicken fried steak, except with chicken. I will never get tired of saying that.

I'm Sorry, Ma'am, but There's Nothing More We Can Do for Mr. Snowman

Is There a Doctor in the House?

Help! The snowman's nose fell off! We need a doctor, stat!

Snowman

Heinz made this little snowman on our balcony a few minutes ago. The snowman is sporting the Jayne hat, which was a part of my Winter 2007 collection.

Here is Adam Baldwin (not a Baldwin brother) wearing the original Jayne hat. And if you haven't seen the TV show Firefly that it's from, you should. Rent it today; it's only 13 episodes.

Valentine's Day

We had such a great Valentine's Day; especially since we've been on vacation this week. We're vacationing at home since the clock is ticking on our time left in New York. Yesterday we started out with brunch at Norma's. Then we went to the Frick Museum (all day we called it the frickin' Frick). Thanks to my friend Mike for suggesting that we go. It's an amazing collection; mostly because it's housed in Frick's home and has been left much the same way as he had originally arranged it.

Then we went to afternoon tea at Alice's Tea Cup. There are three locations; I've been wanting to try them and I'm sorry we never went sooner. It's not as refined as tea at the St. Regis, but it's so much cheaper, and the scones are so much better. Every day they have different flavors, and they're huge and fresh. Ours were right out of the oven. We had White Chocolate-Raspberry Scones and a buttermilk one. Plus there was more food than we could eat so we brought home a scone and the desserts for a snack later. All the little girls at Alice's Tea Cup get a pair of fairy wings. I told Heinz that I thought the one thing Birmingham was lacking was a fun tea place like this. (Unless one has opened that I don't know about.) So put this place on your list for the next time you're in New York.

Project Runway Challenge

This is the Hershey's store in Times Square where the Project Runway contestants went to get materials for a challenge.

Captain Wentworth!!

Most of you know that I love Jane Austen movies. And I especially love Colin Firth (Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice), Alan Rickman (Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility), and Ciaran Hinds (Captain Wentworth from Persuasion). So when I realized that Ciaran Hinds was currently in a play, I had to go. At first glance, The Seafarer didn't look like something I would honestly care to see. But we really enjoyed it...the plot had some really good twists. And the acting was great.

So I had to get a picture with Captain Wentworth. Thanks to my Valentine for taking a picture of me with someone else on Valentine's Day.

And if you haven't seen Persuasion, which you should, then you may recognize Mr. Hinds from Lara Croft: Tomb Raider II.

Jared's Pants

Jared from Subway had some old pants on display in Times Square today.

Fashion Week: What's Left of It, Anyway

As we walked through Bryant Park today, we saw crews cleaning up after Fashion Week.

Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre

Sunday night we went to the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre for the first time for an improv comedy show. Amy Poehler from SNL is one of the co-founders of the theater and was in the show. Seth Meyers and Jason Sudeikis from SNL were also in it, as well as some writers from Conan, The Colbert Report, and 30 Rock and other stuff. We got to sit in the front row; it was a lot of fun!

Where Do Cabbage Patch Kids Come From?

They come from the cabbage patch, of course. These are some cabbage flower plants outside our apartment. Someone stuck a doll head in them. Genius. And check out our snow!

I Meant the Other Contest

Last night Heinz asked me who I thought was going to win. I said, "Well, Obama won several states this weekend." Heinz said, "I meant on Project Runway."

And New Yorkers Think Southerners Are Dumb?

At work today, one girl sitting behind me asked, "When's St. Patrick's Day?" Another girl answered, "March 14."

Super Bowl

I didn't even have to look at the news to know that the New York Giants won the Super Bowl. There's a lot of horns honking and drunk people yelling in the street outside. Heinz calls people like this "future clients."
